Part One: The Citadel of Eternity

So… I don’t quite know how to put this, so I’ll just run right at it, like Kruber in a wine shop. Things are bad out there. I don’t mean ‘out there’, out there. You know, Helmgart and the like. Nor that business with the Weaves. I mean the whole bloody Empire. Maybe even the world. With one thing and another, it’s all gone a bit sticky, if you take my meaning, and while I still reckon that the best thing we can do is hold this little patch of Sigmar’s blessed land together, it’s only a matter of time before some of that stickiness overspills onto us.

Seems Saltzpyre got to thinking. Ratmen, northlanders, beastmen… they’re coming at us hammer and tongs, with Dark Gods square behind ‘em like gamblers doubling down on an easy bet. Victor reckons what we need is for our own gods to rouse their idle backsides and get involved. Maybe not directly, but if they found ‘emselves some champion, worthy of a little bit of divine favour? Well, that’d be roses and smiles all the way down, wouldn’t it?

Can’t think of a worthier lot than you, so what we need is to get their attention. Something that goes beyond muttered prayer. Lucky for you, I’ve got an idea…

Tell me. ‘Ave you ever heard of the Citadel of Eternity?

Bleak times are upon the Warhammer World. Across the globe, ruinous forces gather for a war of unforeseen proportions. Magic billows out of control. The twin-tailed comet – ever a portent of dire times – has appeared in the skies. Scholars and madmen mutter about the coming of the fabled End Times …

One such scholar (or possibly madman) is Victor Saltzpyre, self-proclaimed leader of the Ubersreik Five. With the days growing dark and the laughter of the gods ringing out across the world, Saltzpyre has broken with the more … rigid … precepts of his order and dared to put his faith in legend. One legend in particular – the Citadel of Eternity.

The Citadel of Eternity

This ancient ruin appears only in a handful of texts fervently suppressed by Saltzpyre’s fellow witch hunters. As stories have it, the Citadel of Eternity is a stronghold deep in the Chaos Wastes, where mortals can seek favour of their gods.

Naturally the Templars of Sigmar have long been dubious of such claims. Or rather, have clung to a narrow view of them. The Chaos Wastes are already thick with outcasts, barbarians and heretics who seek the blessings of the gods – specifically the Dark Gods of Chaos: Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and Slaanesh. But with days growing ever more dire, Saltzpyre took a leap of faith, cleaving to the possibility that haler gods too could be courted, should the petitioner prove his worth.

Convincing Olesya was simple enough (even if Saltzpyre found treating with a shadowmancer distasteful) and with her support, Lohner was easily swayed. The others? That proved harder – mostly because Saltzpyre remained adamant that the sole purpose of the expedition was to entreat Sigmar, and Sigmar alone.

Only by relenting, and allowing his companions to seek favour of their own patrons did Saltzpyre finally gain the Ubersreik Five’s full support. Sienna, though far from devout, elected to invoke Myrmidia, the Goddess of the Sun, of Artful War and oft-times a patron of the downtrodden. Bardin, naturally, gravitated to Valaya, Ancestor Goddess of Hearth and Home. There was never any doubt that Kerillian would seek favour from her guardian Lileath. And Kruber, of course, wished to treat with Taal.

Let the Expedition Begin!

The Citadel of Eternity lies in the heart of the Chaos Wastes – a region blasted by magic when the Dark Gods intruded upon the world.

This proves something of a problem, as entry to the Citadel of Eternity is granted only to those who complete three gruelling Expeditions in echo of those who have gone before. Only when these initial challenges are overcome will the path to the Citadel itself be revealed.

But be warned! If the Ubersreik Five fail at any point in an Expedition, they have to return to Taal’s Horn Keep and begin again.
