Franz Lohner’s Chronicle - Whispers in the Wind

An absent-minded man of mysteries, Franz Lohner relies on his bulging journal to keep track of occurrences, intrigues and arguments around Taal's Horn Keep. Sometimes his notes are even useful, believe it or not. The Franz Lohner Chronicles are extracts from that journal.

By now I reckon we’re all used to the fact that Be’lakor’s causing mischief up north, but I’m not sure we’re any of us clear on exactly how he got there. Don’t get me wrong, being a daemon prince means you seldom have to say you’re sorry, much less offer explanations for your actions, but these little details prick at my mind like you wouldn’t believe. I have to have answers, particularly when I’ve at least three or four other sources that insist point blank that the Dark Master’s been active in other corners of the world even while he’s been playing mind games with the Ubersreik Five. It’s not like even he can be several places at once.

I mean, at least I bloody well hope not.

Having talked the matter over with Rosalinde and Olesya, we’re edging towards a solution - especially in light of what’s going on in the Chaos Wastes. Be’lakor’s always been a shadowy sod, but I feel like he’s taken things to a whole new level. Olesya agrees, and blames what we did with - or rather to - the Weave. She reckons he got splintered when all that went down, with pieces scattered every which way, to Castle Drachenfels, the Chaos Wastes and beyond.

It’s a pretty neat trick - I mean, I couldn’t do it and chatter fifteen to the dozen like he does – and gives him all kinds of influence and reach I’d rather a malevolent force of anti-nature didn’t have. All that said, it’s not all bad news. Turns out that little trick we’ve been using to get his evil shadow-ness under control - you know, the thing with the crystals – is only possible precisely because he’s dissipated across Uglu. Something to do with resonance harmonics in the Wind of Shadow, Olesya says, but she has that twinkle in her eye that makes me think she’s just making the blessed thing up.

Either way, it gives us a bit of a chance that this whole fiasco’s not going to blow up in our collective faces. I wish we’d never messed with those dratted Weaves, but I guess it’s too late now. I suppose if worst comes to the worst, we’re at least keeping Be’lakor distracted, and while that’s not exactly the stuff of which legends are made, it’s better than nowt.

All that’s left is to wait for the other shoe to drop, because it surely will.
